The 35th Technical Sessions of the IPSL in conjunction with the 38th AGM of the IPSL have been scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 09, 2019. The purpose of these Sessions is to enable members of the IPSL to present work done by them in the form of a research paper. Members who wish to read their papers are kindly requested to inform the Jt. The Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad Competitions

(Gr. 10-13 & Gr. 6-9) - 2018

The 12th Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad competition and 8th Sri Lankan Junior Astronomy Olympiad competition was held on June 23, 2018 (Saturday) from 11.00am to 1.00 pm at the Universities of Colombo, Kelaniya, Ruhuna (Matara), Rajarata(Mihinthale), Jaffna and the Open University Centres in Kandy(Polgolla) and Batticaloa. A team of five students who did well in the national competition was selected to participate in the 13th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad competition held in Romania in September/ October 2019 and 24th International Astronomy Olympiad competition held in Hungary in September 2019.

The Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad Competition - 2018

The 14th Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad Competition was held on June 23, 2018 (Saturday) from 9.00am to 11.00am at the Universities of Colombo, Kandy, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Jaffna, Vauniya, Rajarata (Mihintale) and Batticaloa. A maximum of five and eight students who did well in the national competition was selected to participate in the 50th International Physics Olympiad Competition which will be held in Israel in July 2019 and/or 20th Asian Physics Olympiad Competition which will be held in Australia in May 2019.

The Sri Lankan Junior Science Olympiad Competition - 2018

The objective of SLJSO is to promote interest in science among school students, exposing them to problem-solving, critical thinking and experimentation and to select best students to represent the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) annually. The Institute of Physics Sri Lanka has made arrangements to hold the national competition (SLJSO) annually. The SLJSO is open for science students who are sixteen years or younger on 31st December of the competition year. The competition shall be conducted in Sinhala/English/Tamil media on a date decided by IPSL. The examination paper shall consist of 50, Multiple Choice Questions based on physics, chemistry, biology, and Mathematics taught at 6 - 11 level syllabuses in Sri Lanka. Based on performance at SLJSO, Gold, Silver, Bronze Medals with a certificate will be awarded to the contestants. The best-selected contestants may represent the International Junior Science Olympiad with the guidance and support from the Institute of Physics.

Best Undergraduate Physics Research Project Award - 2018

In recognition of the growing significance of science and technology, and with the aim of strengthening research skills of undergraduates in the field of physics education, an annual competition for Best Undergraduate Physics Research Project Award is organized for university undergraduates in Sri Lanka, by the Institute of Physics, Sri Lanka (IPSL). IPSL recognizes and honors undergraduates, who have exhibited a distinguished competence in experimental and analytical skills relevant to the research in the field of Physics. The Award will consist of a medal, a monetary award and a certificate citing the achievement.

Undergraduates in Sri Lankan Universities are eligible to apply for the 2018 award for a research project completed in 2017.

Deadline for accepting applications for the award has been extended up to June 25, 2018
