The Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad Competition – 2023

The Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad Competition – 2023 will be held on November 4, 2023 (Saturday) from 9.00 am to 11.00 am at the Universities of Colombo, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Rajarata (Mihintale), Jaffna and the Open University Centers at Kandy (Polgolla) and Batticaloa. A maximum of eight students who did well in the national competition will be selected to participate in APhO, 2024 (the country not known yet).

The Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad Competitions (Gr. 10-13 & Gr. 6-9) – 2023

The 14th Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad and the 10th Sri Lankan Junior Astronomy Olympiad are organized by the Institute of Physics, Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Department of Physics, the University of Colombo in association with the Sri Lanka Astronomy Olympiad Association. The competitions will be held on Saturday 4th November 2023.

Technical Sessions – 2024

The 40th Technical Sessions of the IPSL in conjunction with the 44th AGM of the IPSL will be held on Saturday, 23rd March 2024. The purpose of the Sessions is to enable members to present work done by them in the form of a research paper. Members who wish to read their papers are kindly requested to submit their manuscripts through the IPSL website, https://ipsl.lk/technical-sessions/ by November 30, 2023

The AGM will be held on March 23rd, 2024 at 3.00 pm at NPLT, Department of Physics, University of Colombo.

Best Undergraduate Physics Research Project Award – 2023

In recognition of the growing significance of science and technology, and with the aim of strengthening the research skills of undergraduates in the field of physics education, an annual competition for Best Undergraduate Physics Research Project Award is organized for university undergraduates in Sri Lanka, by the Institute of Physics, Sri Lanka (IPSL). IPSL recognizes and honors undergraduates, who have exhibited a distinguished competence in experimental and analytical skills relevant to the research in the field of Physics. The Award will consist of a monetary award and a certificate citing the achievement.

Graduates from Sri Lankan Universities who have obtained the degree within the period of 30th December 2021 to 15th May 2023 (effective date) are eligible to apply for the 2023 award.

Institute of Physics Sri Lanka conducts a Foundation course in Physics covering the G.C.E Advanced Level Physics syllabus. Successful completion of this course is accepted as a pass in G.C.E (A/L) Physics subject when enrolling in some Degree programmes.

The 13th Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad competition and 9th Sri Lankan Junior Astronomy Olympiad competition was held on September 7, 2019 (Saturday) from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm at the Universities of Colombo, Kelaniya, Ruhuna (Matara), Rajarata(Mihinthale), Jaffna and the Open University Centres in Kandy(Polgolla) and Batticaloa. A team of five students who did well in the national competition was selected to participate in the 51st IPhO will be held in Lithuania, during the month of July in 2020 and the 21st APhO will be held in the month of May 2020 in (the country not known yet).

Registration deadline is 15th August 2019
